在這款獲獎肯定且如電影般的動作驚悚遊戲中，陷入麻煩的作家 Alan Wake 盡其所能地尋找他失蹤的妻子 Alice。在她從西北太平洋地區的小鎮 Bright Falls 神秘失蹤之後，他發現一些應該是他寫的恐怖故事的零散書頁，但是他卻完全沒有印象。

很快地，Wake 就不得不質疑自己是否仍然心智健全，因為隨著書頁一頁一頁地翻開，故事情節在他眼前化為真實：一個懷有敵意的超自然黑暗力量正在佔據它發現的每一個人，利用他們來對付他。
